Thomas Sawyer, a 62-year-old bladder cancer survivor who made headlines last November after a pat-down left him covered in his own urine, has filed a new complaint with the Transportation Security Administration.
A Michigan bladder cancer survivor says TSA agents removed his urostomy bag, soaking his pants, despite warning. WILX reporter Rachel Thomas has the story.
Sawyer, who wears a urostomy bag that collects his urine through an opening in his abdomen, said he was traveling through Detroit Metro Airport on July 14 on his way to Orlando when he was singled out for a pat-down.
“Before I could even get (out) the words, ‘I want this done privately,’ the agent began patting me down in public,” said Sawyer. “I said ‘Whoa! I have a medical condition.’ He said, ‘I know,’ and continued the pat-down.”
TSA policy states that travelers “should be offered a private screening before the beginning of a pat-down inspection if the pat-down will require the lifting of clothing and/or display of a covered medical device.”
Sawyer, of Houghton Lake, Mich., believes the policy was violated and filed a formal complaint with the TSA on July 20, after he returned from his trip.
“I just don't get it. Why can't the Detroit TSO agents follow the procedures? This pat-down was rough and not done appropriately,” said Sawyer. “The screener squeezed my bag several times and they are not supposed to even touch it.”
However, the seal on his urostomy bag did not break this time, Sawyer told msnbc.com, despite news reports claiming that he was once again left covered in urine.
TSA spokesperson Greg Soule said the agency takes every passenger’s claim seriously. “We are reviewing the circumstances surrounding this passenger’s screening to determine if the proper procedures were followed,” he said.
Last November, Sawyer received a personal apology from TSA administrator John Pistole after a pat-down at the Detroit airport left him crying and "humiliated." Sawyer later traveled to Washington, D.C,. at Pistole’s request, to give the TSA input on how the agency’s screeners might better handle passengers with medical conditions.
The TSA has established a coalition of more than 70 organizations to help the agency understand the concerns of travelers with disabilities and medical conditions, including those with ostomy bags. Screeners were trained on a modified procedure earlier this year that allows passengers with ostomy bags, in most circumstances, to perform a self pat-down of the appliance with a glove, which could then be screened for explosives.

Sounds to me like he was singled out in retaliation for the first incident.
Or perhaps he is embellishing his story. It may have happened once. But twice...I doubt it. Just another 15 minutes of fame possibly.
I agree with JR. This sounds way to fishy.
I have stopped flying since my ostomy -- I won't venture the humiliation of a broken seal. I guess when I get older I won't care so much.
JRH1194----you wear one of those damn bags and let those idiots pat you down and then see how you feel.
Why would the man lie about such a thing? For what gain? I don't believe it was retaliation, but I have no problem believing a TSA agent acted as the man described.
The important thing is that the TSA makes *all of us* feel soooooo much safer, right?
/sarcasm
Its quite clear that this new pat down was done in revenge. The TSA Agent who did the pat down, should be jailed.
This was an attack on the Disabled Person and Revenge and nothing more. I believe the man should file a lawsuit against the TSA, the Government and the airport.
Its long past time for the TSA and the Department of Homeland Defense to be disbanded. Long past time.
@badger411
Yes, becuase the TSA handed his picture out to every one of their agents and informed them that they are to make his life a living hell by..... doing their job. /sarcasm
Seriously do you people think about things before you open your mouth? Of course the TSA didn't single him out because of his first complaint. Its far more likely this guy is trying to provoke incidents. I mean seriously, he stood there and let them start the pat down BEFORE he opened his mouth... sounds like this was more his fault then anything.
John, please re-read the article. Before he could say anything and request a private pat down, the TSA agent started to pat him down. Then, when he did say he had a medical condition, the agent said, "I know."
Retribution, of course. Admitted by the low life, low intelligence standard the TSA draws on for their workforce. " I Know" just as the litle black book the local LEO's have on the so-called "Trouble Makers" who question their tactics in small towns. Business as usual. Bin Laden may be dead, but he has won.
The really sad part about these pat downs, is that absolutely no common sense is involved. This person
doesn't exactly fit the threatening type persona. I see many much more likely prospects at the airport
that are not bothered!
People, we are all decedents of exceptional people, no matter our ethnicity. We were pioneers, rebels, inventors. We built a nation. WE were AMERICANS! AND now the government that should be FOR the people-- BY the people is literally squashing our civil rights. DO WE FIGHT? no ....DO WE REBEL ? no .....we roll over and take it like a bunch of sniveling cowards. We say " OH, it must be for our own good." The terrorist won.
Look at the statistics--- no other nation is doing to its people what TSA is allowed to do to us.....you can fly in from anywhere in the world without a pat down or anything. YOU CAN FLY INTO THE U.S.A. without any type of screening. YOu think we are safer? TSA is a dog and pony show so that your lying politicians can pretend to be doing something.. Open your eyes. Israel has one of the highest security screenings and they don't put their citizens through this bull.
Houston---please go back on your meds. You are a danger to yourself. I see that you have copied and pasted this post throughout the entire conversation . Either you are schizophrenic or you are a government plant.
Houston GOP - You should be ashamed of yourself for your rant. This guy has as much right to fly as anyone else. He has a well managed, non-contagious medical condition. There is no valid reason for him not to be able to fly. He also has the right not to be abused and embarrassed by TSA agents on power trips. Since the first incident happened at the same airport, I can believe that this was done in retaliation for his complaint. The fact that the TSA agent replied "I know" when he was informed by this man that he had a medical condition tends to support that as well. This gentleman should have been taken to a private area for screening in accordance with the TSA guidelines. If TSA can not even follow their own rules, they should be disbanded. There are more effective ways of protecting us than the ones the TSA are using now. Israel uses profiling and does not resort to these intrusive screenings at random. They are far moire likely to be attacked yet have not had any incidents. This is because profiling works. Our PC government is too afraid of being called racist to use profiling, even though it is a proven effective law enforcement technique used in most other countries of the world. It is time to stop worrying about being PC and focus on methods that work while not infringing on the rights of the average citizen.
No, Kallie, I think he's just an idiot. Or possibly an agent provocateur - since he describes himself as a "tea bagger", which is not a term that any actual member of the Tea Party uses to describe him/herself.
"houston gop" is obviously a troll, ignore the fool, he will get bored and go away
You wanted hope and change and you got hope and change! Welcome to the new age of 'Gestapo tactics Law Enforcement!'
"Those who would give up a little freedom for a little security deserve niether." Thomas Jefferson
Is this reverse profiling? Attack the obvious innocent? Yeah, the terrorists appear to have won through our very own TSA.
UH KAYLA THE INCREASED SECURITY WAS PUT IN PLACE BY BUSH NOT OBAMA.
Sad that you will do anything; say anything to put Obama down.
FYI to all, I am not putting Bush down for implementing stronger security I support that.
I think any passenger that wants or needs a private screening should say so when they get their boarding pass so it can be marked as such, then when presented to the first person you meet at security (Before you even enter the area) can direct you and see that your preference is known, perhaps even a colored sticker on the pass or on your lapel.
And Zapper, how easy would it be to put a hazardous liquid in a colostomy bag and make it look real? Sounds like a good concept for a terrorist.
A terrorist is not likely to come in with a box that says Bomb Inside on it wearing (since we know you think all terrorist are Muslims) a Turban and an "Avenge Bin Laden" T Shirt.
This is why the TSA (terribly stupid a**holes) should be disbanded and private contractors should take over. No more complains filed because either they treat people with the respect they deserve or you slap the company with a law suit. No where in the constitution does it say that the government must hire the socially handicapped.
This is not about safety, etc or protecting anyone imo...... it is about money. The equipment being used cost a lot of money. Also those companies who probably have the contract to provide the employees to do these searches, IT, maintainance on the equipment etc make a lot of money.
Capitalism..... oh what a feeling..... LOL
why do we have the TSA again? All you hear about is them patting down obviously innocent people and children violating them in the process. Airports should use dogs plain and simple. All the pat-downs in the world will never be better than a trained dog's sniffer.
Uh, franklytrue, grab, squeeze and rub searches were initiated under 'Big Sis' and Obama not Bush. It is also Holder, HLS and Obama who sanctioned and suppoort the legal molestation of children by tsa. I'm not saying creating the TSA wasn't a really stupid thing that Bush did, because it really was, but the TSA has become an all seeing, all knowing abomination which answers to absolutely no one, and obviously IS abover the law since 2008. This of course goes along with Holder's statement that the only civil rights violations that the justice dept will treat as valid are those committed "against his people," his words not mine. This administration has turned the rule of law in this country on it's head, and made the idea of fairness a disappearing idea in the country.
Kayla, if you're going yo quote Ben, at least use what he actually said.
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."-- B. Franklin
I believe it I know that not once, not twice, not three times, but four so far even though they have been told about my wife's medical condition, they have taken her water, and medication away knowing that once they start their pat down around her throat it is going to cause her to have breathing problems and once they start they will not give her, her water or medication for 5- 10 minuets while they stand around and talk and test the water to see if it is water, and by then her primary med's won't work but we have to skip straight to an injection.
Um, Kayla, maybe you don't know this, but Obama didn't become president until 2009. The vast majority of these "security" measures were put into place by the Bush administration, after passing the Patroit Act. An amazingly large and complex document, referencing a lot of other documents that was supposedly written in a matter of a couple weeks :P
I travel through dtw every week. Last week the TSA agent found something "suspect" in my bag. No idea what they think they saw, they never bothered to tell me. I told the man I come through every week with the exact same items so I couldn't imagine what it was at which point he started barking," YOU CAN TALK TO MY SUPERVISOR!" Every time I asked him something he barked it again. Whatever he was looking for he apparently did not find and finally sent me on my way feeling irritated, harassed and itching for another negative encounter.
This week a very nice woman from the TSA pulled me aside as I was coming through the xray and said, "I've chosen you for extra screening." She was nice, quick and efficient and I was soon on my way with zero irritation and hindrance.
To be honest I think the TSA has the same problem that the police sometimes have which is they attract people with a problem with authority. They attract bullies. And bullies are bullies in an office or in an airport. It's just that in an airport they can physically bully you and get away with it.
I beg to differ with some of you. The patdown and the entire process weas videotaped. TSA and the Michigan Direcotr both have copies of the video tape. Sorry, but video tapes do not lie. It is all there for them to see and they have seen it. And yes, I am the person involved in ths situation.
Tom-394522. We are Freedom to Travel USA. We are in 33 states and we are in Michigan. Please consider contacting us at info @ fttusa . o r g. We would love to support you.
Well TOM, if you were the person involved in that mess, and he told you he had a problem, why didn't you take him to a private screening room immediately like you should have, instead of patting him down in public like you should not have? Why did you ignore the rules and, if you admitted to "knowing" in advance he had a problem, you should have directed him to a private room immediately before you even touched him, but you apparently did none of those things according to this article. It's hard to take up for you if the facts in this article are correct.
All this simply proves the terrorist won. We are a terrified nation willing to give up any freedom if it means "maybe" one life will be saved. We should have a vote and see if the majority of Americans wish to continue living like this or would they rather risk going back to the way it was.
Totally agree that the terroists have won. The fear factor is exactly what they wanted. If people would stop and realize that approx. 10% of the cargo is checked, they might think differently about individual checks. I find these pat downs ridiculous & humiliating for those who have gone through cancer treatment of any kind. What would they do if a woman had no breasts due to mastectomy's. Pat her down in public & then ask what happened to your breasts or ask her if she is a "transgender."
i totally agree with your post we should vote on many things immigration , terroisim , gay marriage , borders , debt , latinos , taxxes. Winnder take all. majority wins.
but one thing is clear these debates are driving us crazy. and they need to end. these 5 debates need to end. gays , immigration , taxxes , tsa , terrorisim . we have to take a national vote. To end these debates once and for all. and move on. cause we have been stuck on them for a decade plus. theres never been a time except for salvery : when the u.s. was stuck on debates : as long. these 5 debates have been with us going on 15 years. and i agree with horn green. winner take all.
national vote
the american way.
Uh, actually moron, it isn't. We have never once had a national vote on ANY issue. And thank god.
I think you mean country wide vote.
Each of the 50 States are actually "Nation States" of the Republic. Evidence being each State has its own National Guard that is commanded by the Governor of that particular State, and can be made available to the US military if deemed necessary. At least that's what the earlier history books taught.
each State has its own National Guard that is commanded by the Governor of that particular State, and can be made available to the US military if deemed necessary.
It used to be that way but now the guard is treated as a part of the military reserves. This started under either Carter or Reagan.
I agree with you on that! That IS the way it's treated. Isn't it interesting how they try to change how things work by going through improper channels?! ~_o
He's probably on a list and will be singled out every time he flys.
If that is the case he should find another mode of transportation....or stay home.
jrh1194: Why? Why should he have to give up HIS rights to travel?
@Houston
You are everything that is wrong with this country. You lack even the most basic trace of decency. If you are an example of the tea party we are in very deep trouble. Pray you never find yourself in a situation like this man's. I'm sure he would love to empty his urostomy bag over your pathetic, miserable, hateful, fat head. Do us all a favor and crawl back under your rock.
just ignore houston, clearly just some kid fooling around
Houston GOP is a troll, Using a fake name, and probably banned on another account.
he doesnt have a right to travel. that is a priviledge!!
he can walk all he wants but he does not have a right to travel in any vehicle not even a public bus.
Its all a privledge! even if he bought his own bus. they can deny him a license to drive!
get off your high horse!
yep, next step is:
"do you have your papers in order?"
here comes the police state
sloppyjoes, quit your whining and get a life, these stupid, police state TSA screenings are doing nothing to make you safer, but are doing a whole lot to enforce a police state, sheep mentality.
dont fly. if they are doing nothing. Just DONT FLY!
dont like being the animal stay in your house, more room for us SHEEP to roam!!
HAHA!
how does it feel to be a friend of the terrorists?
because of people like you the terrorists are winning, letting the terrorists force us to give up our freedom for the illusion of security.
what are you going to do when some terrorist gets on a plane with a bomb up his a$$? are you going to demand rectal exams for everyone wanting to fly?
the thing is, we could be using dogs to sniff out explosives and it would be far less intrusive and more likely to catch any bombs.
but maybe you like getting your crotch groped, probably that is the only time anyone will touch you.
"HA HA"
F#$^!*g Idiots TSA
I can't believe some of you are taking Houston GOP seriously! The comments he/she has made are obviously a set up to make Tea Partiers look like racists and bigots.
Nice try, Houston GOP. You're the type of person that plants him/herself at a Tea Party rally for the SOLE purpose of attempting to make Tea Partiers look like something they are not.
By the way, Tea Partiers do NOT refer to themselves as "tea bagger" (sic).
obviously just some goofy kid using moms computer, and thinks its funny
modres, try looking up where the term originated. You might be surprised to find you are completely wrong in saying no bagger referred to themselves as one. Thanks for playing. just type "call themselves" into Google and bam...don't even have to finish. I'll even help if the link actually shows up. If not, Google is your friend.

Another quality minimum wage employee.
I agree with the sarcasm. However, I prefer the minimum wage earner to work in a burger place and not be responsbile for my security.
Burger joint employees do more good for our society than TSA agents. I promise DHS won't be responsible for your security when their TSA agents fail, only when they can claim they've prevented something terrible from happening.
Here is what I think...I know you all didn't ask for it but here goes. After 911 happened people were scared and Tsa was formed. I know how hard it is being disabled but I feel safer knowing that there is a hint of safety when you go to the checkpoint. They are doing their jobs and I do not mind the checks or even the pat downs. If TSA saves one life than its worth it. The miltary men and women loose a friend or mom, dad, sister and brother, child, or grandchild every day. SO the way I see it (((and I am disable))) It is a small thing I can do to give my family peace of mind Pat me down, strip me if you must....Its a small piece to a bigger problem. I DO NOT HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT....so stop with the woo is me and suck it up! Life is way to short to sweat the small stuff. I fly alot and at least we are not in an airport with the miltary walking around with guns. (Singapore does) All I can say is I live in the USA and I get freedom, we are lucky, but after 911 my freedom is not as strong as it was but to keep that freedom we have to do things we may like but TSO's has given us a little bit of that freedom back.
TSA has prevented 0 ---ZERO ---terrorist attacks. There are no pat downs coming into the country. Anyone could come in having a bomb and we would be none the wiser. It is to make the sheep think they are safer. Israel has very secretive security measures since they are threatened with terrorist attacks daily and the thing is that their people are not subjected to this type of scrutiny.
We are all decedents of exceptional people, no matter our ethnicity. We say " OH, it must be for our own good." The terrorists won.
. YOu think we are safer? TSA is a dog and pony show so that your lying politicians can pretend to be doing something.. Open your eyes.
If TSA saves one life than its worth it.
no, it's not.
get bomb-sniffing dogs instead, more reliable and less intrusive. as well as the dogs not being on a power trip to intimidate and annoy people. "go ahead , complain and see what I do to you then!"
the next nutcase bomber is likely to have the bomb stuck entirely up his arse (been done already) the ridiculous grope-down won't catch that, but a dog would.
here's the thing: pat-downs after any mechanical scan add zero security value, if you define security as a "terrorist attack." almost nobody in the security game disagrees with this. BUT, pat-downs are VALUABLE for finding all kinds of OTHER contraband. people don't realize that TSA is not just about terrorism -- they are about addressing all security and illegal matters.
in a sense (and reasonable people will disagree), 9-11 fears have opened the door for heightened security for all interests. that is the battle that is going on. think about it. not that anyone cares, but i've been in this game a long time -- so i apologize if i sound superior. but it's hard to keep quiet give some of the idiotic posts.
Somebody's head should roll for this one!
Don't hold your breath waiting for the TSA to admit that they did anything wrong.............they will blame the passenger for something or once again say "I'm sorry until next time we do the same thing".................Sounds like the banks and mortgages you think??
TSA: monkeys in clothes!
People please. I have no issues with this discussion other than this: if you cannot, or will not, treat your language with the respect it deserves, please stop posting jibberish. KNOW how to spell, or use spell-check. KNOW your grammar (like the correct uses for to, too and two). Almost every posting I've read up to this point contains so many word mis-uses and mis-spellings that's it comical to even entertain the notion anyone may know what they're talking about, or that a reader of any significant intelligence can decipher the meanings. Woe is not spelled woo (and yes, woe and whoa are both legitimate words - but don't take my word for it, look it up!), 'than' is not the same as 'then'. When the people in any given country can no longer even support their country's language, then more serious problems than airport security are bound to come into play. Who would want to employ such ignorance? Oh! I know! TSA!!
No, sounds lots worse than the banks.
I can't possibly entertain the notion you know what your talking about when you claim English is the official language of the United States of America. This is a public forum in which people from all over the world are free to express their opinions. English may not be every ones main language. I think it is insulting and rude to criticize the way people use language to express themselves in a public forum. There is a time and place to teach proper English. It isn't in a public forum, unless of course you can provide an American law that states otherwise.
knowyourlanguage,
I was thinking exactly the same thing, and about the exact same post, to. (nudge nudge)
After reading that particular post, I wondered if they actually knew how to correctly spell their own name.
Spell check is useless for "two"-"to"-"too" or my all-time favorite "then" and "than".
I won't even mention "alot". GRRrrrrr !
You know they're going to hate us for this, knowyourlanguage. The truth hurts.
I agree with knowyourlanguage! Even if you're a brain surgeon commenting on a story about brain surgery, as far as I'm concerned you lose all credibility if you cannot use proper grammar and spelling. The mistake that makes me cringe the most is "your" vs. "you're". "You're" is short for "you are". I don't understand how someone can read and see these in context but cannot use them correctly in writing.
TSA agents care about passengers just about as much as the McDonalds employees cares about the quality of your hamburger.
TSA agents have a harder job but they get paid better and should act more like professionals if that's how they want to be treated and viewed
kid, can't you think of something original to say?
We're always so proud when they finally learn how to copy and paste. [/sarcasm]
Actually the McDonalds I go to for dinner periodically do care more than the TSA does. I tend to have mine made differently than standard, Extra cheese and all. They check over it and make sure I get it.
So not quite being fair to McD's.
Still TSA annoys me greatly. The last time I went on a flight I managed to take a SMALL 1.5oz toothpaste on the way out to CA from VA. I was forced to throw it away for the return trip. All TSA are in my opinion thugs. This story makes me very sick. I can relate to this guy a bit. I have a nighttime wetting problem. So usually I carry a few Adult briefs with me in the bag and I wear one for when I am on the plane in the event I fall asleep. I didn't like the TSA guy dumping them all over the table in front of everyone. Yes, there was a "Private" screening room around the corner.
"I just don't get it. Why can't the Detroit TSO agents follow the procedures? This pat-down was rough and not done appropriately"
It may have something to do with the fact that you're in Detroit.
That's cold ....
It's not just Detroit.
Denver put a friend of mine through holy hell because she has an insulin pump.
Morons wouldn't even read her physician's letter, and they were rude to boot.
Obama's civilian police force, getting the sheeple conditioned. TSA is one dept that could be cut, save the country a lot of money and probably make it safer for people. At least they would not be getting sexually violated for choosing to fly.
"Obama's civilian police force" for a group created in 2001, what an idiot you are, I guess your name says it all, a dog was your mom.
PV-That was an a$$hole comment.
The "dog was your mom" part was out of line but the "idiot" part? Not so much.
The TSA precedes Obama's presidency by several years. You can thank Bush for them. Just another Republican cash cow/pork project.
"TSA is one dept that could be cut, save the country a lot of money and probably make it safer for people."
You can thank Bush and the Republicans for the TSA, along with the larger military, homeland security, etc. The left wants a welfare state, the right wants a police state. It's big government on both sides, and ultimately more spending, debt, and a budget deficit.
'"Obama's civilian police force" for a group created in 2001,' - PVPerson
So Obama still doesn't have any Responsibly for the Executive Branch of the government after 30 months in office? When does he have to have any responsibility for his own picks for the heads of these departments exactly? Will he ever have any responsibility for his actions?
Did you give Bush a pass for 9/11 as it was only 9 months after he took office as well? Or are we thinking Bush was at least three times the man Obama is?
If the CIA does something bad, do you blame the President in charge when the CIA did it, and who appointed the head of the CIA when the actions took place? Or do you blame Harry Truman for being President and signing the National Security Act of 1947?
I'm just trying to figure out how this works? Will Obama ever have to take responsibility for anything?
I've seen these overpaid TSA Agents in action....I will never take a plane again.
Don't worry, soon I'm sure they'll have them on (in order of appearance): trains, subways, buses, toll booths and street corners.
ccrider, that makes sense and is very likely
the TSA's mission: "protects the Nation’s transportation systems to ensure freedom of movement for people and commerce."
I have doubts about the freedom part, but the agency is not restricted to aviation. I wouldn't be surprised if we started seeing TSA screeners on other "transportation systems".
Do away with the TSA.
The very idea of a TSA agent making a 62 year old man cry in humilation brings tears to MY eyes. This poor man survived cancer and is just trying to live his life. For shame, what are things coming to?
I refuse to fly after reading and hearing about stories that my family has witnessed first hand of the disrespect of the elderly and children. The TSA needs to totally be done away with and a new system put into place that has common sense procedures and yes racial profiling. Call it what you want but what they are doing right now is nothing closer than sexual harassment and some well high profiled lawyers need to take this issue on and make it a huge issue more than it already has become. As an American, I am totally ashamed and embarrassed on how we treat others at our airports that are clearly not a threat. So with that said, I will take my chances driving to my destinations and not be subjected to sexual harassment and cheap thrills for rent a cop TSA agents.
You are a @!$%#ing dumbass. You are probably a little 15 yr old kid who thinks he's funny by making an account just to talk @!$%#. And I am a conservative.
Poor guy! I had an ostomy but that's not why Istopped flying, the terrorist don't scare me away either, their just thugs. I stopped because of a government I don't trust! The TSA is guilty of violating every Americans civil rights that they force their pat down procedure on. I won't fly commercially until these violations stop and commonsense profiling is instituted......
Inclined to agree with badger411. Don't think jrh1194's embellishment idea is logical precisely because Sawyer asserts the patdown was done publicly. Sawyer is a retired teacher, probably not stupid, so don't think he'd make up an incident that could be contradicted by any witnesses most likely present in the public area.
Besides, with the lack of planning/forethough/training that's had TSA agents breaking ostomy bags, strip searching infants and asking a 96 y.o. terminal leukemia patient to remove her adult diaper, I have no problem believing this could happen twice.
@horngreen -- completely agree. Think many people are afraid and so wind up thinking that since these laws/edicts will make us "safe," they won't have to be afraid anymore. But we're still not "safe" and what's worse, we're no longer free because we're letting supposed terrorists dictate how we behave. Worst of all, based on what I've seen posted here, I'm not at all sure that the majority wouldn't prefer to continue living like this. It's sad.
And let's not forget the adult young man with profound autism who was denied the toy he normally carries everywhere for comfort and security.
Myyoungest is now 23 and has no disability, but she would have kicked the a$$ of AYONE who tried to take her blnkie away from her when she was little. I can onlyimagine how terrified and bereft that young man felt, simply because someone decided to fle their so-called authority. Life is difficult enouh for the profoundly autistic without things beingmade more difficult simply because someone can.
Agreed with retired. My older sister is autistic and the last time my family ever flew, was before this TSA pat down crap. If anybody tried to take her toys away a huge scene woul be made and we would probably be questioned because of her toy!
I can't believe some of you are taking Houston GOP seriously! It's obviously a set up to make Tea Partiers look like racists and bigots.
Nice try, Houston GOP. You're the type of person that plants himself at a Tea Party rally for the SOLE purpose of attempting to make Tea Partiers look like something they are not.
Ya...he did set up a fake account. Prob a little liberal who has no life. @!$%#ING LOSER!
The TSA just keeps digging its own six-foot-deep hole......
And getting ready to throw us in! Only we can stop them, and they have majority of us brainwashed into thinking they're worthwhile.
With video cameras everywhere Stewart would have to be crazy to lie or embellish. Having encountered TSA frequently my impression is that a good percentage of them aren't too bright and too many of them have problems with basic English.
The TSA is a VERY EXPENSIVE and pathetic joke on the American people. Anytime the Federal Government gets involved in doing ANYTHING it costs10 times more than the private sector. Janet and Pistole are @orons qand need to be flushed. Neither has a stellar track record in anything they have done.
More Americans are killed by domestic common criminals than any terrorist. The TSA goons should be used to fight crimes on our streets instead of harassing citizens. Our tax money is being wasted.
Uh....give them guns and turn them loose? Not in my back yard, thanks. Or, for that matter, my front yard. That is a TRULY scary thought!
As a deputy, I do not working side by side with me. Let them harass people at the Airports. You keep letting them. If I do a pat down on a suspect, they damn well know the have been frisked.
TSA should have a nurse on staff, at all times, to provide medical patdowns in privacy.
We used to protect our weak, our children, our elderly...now we tell them to take a bus?
Look at the statistics--- no other nation is doing to its people what TSA is allowed to do to us.....you can fly in from anywhere in the world without a pat down or anything. YOU CAN FLY INTO THE U.S.A. without any type of screening. YOu think we are safer? TSA is a dog and pony show so that your lying politicians can pretend to be doing something.. Open your eyes. Israel has one of the highest security screenings and they don't put their citizens through this bull.
TSA the new American Gestapo. The only difference now is these guys aren't secret.
Detroit is badly run facility. Traffic has dropped since the auto company problems and nobody there takes any ownership. Detroit is a Delta hub..... forget Delta, worst run airline in America!
The sad part about this is that it is exactly the end result that the terrorists are looking for. Their goal is to take away our freedom and rights and organizations like TSA is exactly that.
What we as Americans should do is to just go on about our business as usual and let the terrorists know that their tactics do not scare us. Sooner or later they will figure out that the violence is getting them no where and it will stop. Yeah, I know some innocent people will die in the process but look how many are dying now!
On 7/11 I was returning home through Orlando's international airport. After putting ALL of my hand carried bags & shoes in those bins for scanning I then went through the metal detector. For some reason the tsa agent decided I was guilty of something and was told to step into a 'glass cage' for further checking. I asked him why & he just said I was randomely selected! Randomely selected....!?
There were 2 doors...one at each end of this glass cage. The door I entered through was then blocked by the TSA agent and the other was locked. I asked the tsa agent "what about my belongings" that were just sitting there at the end of the conveyor rollers? He said that was why the cage was glass so that I could keep an eye on it. So while I'm in this glass cage I have to keep an eye out on my stuff that I wouldn't have been able to get to if someone did try to steal it. And if someone did try to take it who would have gone after it? If I had tried would they have yelled"halt or I will shoot"? Finally after a good 5 minutes another tsa agent opened the other door and swiped both my hands without any type of explanation as to what she was doing. I had to ask. She said she was checking for explosive residue on my hands!!!! The way I see it according to the tsa agency we are all guilty until proven innocent.
But, the bottom line to all of this is that if I did have some type of explosive device on me it is already too late if I have made it through the front door of the airport. I would rather have a trained dog sniff my crotch before having some tsa agent feel me up.
I believe the main reason why airlines are now charging for checked bags is because if you don't check any they have more space for cargo that pays much more than a free checked bag. BUT......is that cargo thoroughly checked like the passengers are? And if not...then why bother checking the passengers?
tears rolled down my face when i visualized this poor man's ordeal...shame on them...profile terrorists ! ! !
please send those tsa agents to police my suburban neighborhood which is becoming a new haven for drug dealers recently run out of neighboring communities ! ! !
